Los 40 principals is a Top 40 CHR musical radio network owned by the Spanish media conglomerate Prisa Radio. It has its origins as a music show at Radio Madrid, today Cadena SER, in 1966 and evolved into a standalone radio los 40 principales station in 1979. It is now broadcasting to several Spanish-speaking countries, including Argentina, Bolivia, Colombia, Costa Rica, Ecuador, Guatemala, Mexico, Panama and Paraguay.
Originally the radio station was a spin-off from the Cadena SER network, but in 1987 it became independent and has since grown into a major brand name. The station has more than 50 million listeners worldwide and is the number one radio station in Spain and many other Spanish-speaking regions, including Argentina, Bolivia and Colombia.
The radio station features popular music from English, Spanish and Latin American countries. It also has several special programs, such as the popular Primavera Pop concert held each year in Madrid.
